Two conflicting projects in Nicaragua are being financed by the German government. Public funds are going toward the expansion of a palm oil plantation. Environmentalists are sounding the alarm, however: the plantation poses a threat to a strictly protected biosphere reserve. Small farmers are also protesting the project. The monocultures endanger their fields, which were also funded by German development aid.

For years, the Penan people in Malaysia have been fighting the timber company Interhill. In an attempt to stop the loggers, the natives have set up a blockade on the roads running through the rainforest of Sarawak.
They are now calling on Interhill and the government of this South-East Asian country to halt their grubbing activities immediately. Interhill is a business partner of French hotel group Accor, operating a Pullman luxury hotel in Sarawak’s capital, Kuching.
