Lawsuit against copper mine in Ecuador headlines Canadian biggest newspaper Toronto Star

Since 1997 Rainforest Rescue supports local peasants and environmentalists in Ecuador against a planned copper mine in a pristine rainforest area Northwest of the capital Quito. Among other, with our funds 3,000 hectares of rainforest have been bought just above the copper deposit.

Since 1997 Rainforest Rescue supports local peasants and environmentalists in Ecuador against a planned copper mine in a pristine rainforest area Northwest of the capital Quito. Among other, with our funds 3,000 hectares of rainforest have been bought just above the copper deposit. The local communities defended their rainforest reserve against all attacks by Canadian mining company Copper Mesa.

In March 2009 the Ecuadorian anti-mining activists filed a lawsuit against the mining company and the Toronto Stock Exchange in Canada, where Copper Mesa is listed. Todays news of the lawsuit made headlines news in Canada's biggest newspaper, the Toronto Star on Sunday. Read here.
