The forests of Chiapas in southern Mexico teem with life – from howler monkeys and jaguars in the lowland rainforests to quetzals gliding through misty mountain canopies. But this paradise is vanishing fast. Nearly half of Chiapas’ forests have already been lost to illegal logging, and what remains is shrinking every day. Once the trees fall, the land becomes fields, pastures, or plantations, and the streams that sustain countless people begin to dry up.
Together with our partner, Otros Mundos Chiapas, we are calling on Mexico’s federal and state governments to act. Please sign our petition to stop the destruction and save these forests – the lifeblood of nature and the communities who depend on them.
In remote villages of the Congo Basin, our partner Bonobo Alive supports schools that give children access to education while helping protect bonobos and their rainforest home. By funding teachers, materials, and tuition, the project strengthens local communities and reduces pressure on wildlife. Education here is more than learning – it’s conservation in action.
Indonesia: Dam project in Batang Toru forest stopped
Following the devastating Cyclone Senyar, Indonesia’s Environment Ministry has halted dam, mining, and plantation operations in the Batang Toru forest – a victory for everyone fighting to save the Tapanuli orangutans’ last habitat. Years of deforestation had left the slopes unstable and communities at risk. This pause offers a vital chance to push for lasting protection of Batang Toru.
Around the world, brave rainforest defenders risk their safety to protect their homes from loggers, miners, and plantation companies. Many have lived with the forest for generations and fight not just for nature, but for their way of life. Your support helps them secure land rights, stop illegal destruction, and keep the rainforest – and their communities – alive.
