Mother Nature Cambodia: activists’ message is being heard – despite imprisonment
They denounce the destruction of nature and take to the streets to advocate for human rights and the environment: Five members of Mother Nature Cambodia (MNC) have been imprisoned since July 2024, each sentenced to six to eight years. Nevertheless, the activists’ call for a livable and just world remains loud and clear – both in Cambodia and internationally. Three videos highlight their messages.
Celebrated on the world stage, imprisoned at home
Illegal logging and sand mining, toxins in soil and water, corruption: for ten years, the young people of Mother Nature Cambodia have been raising awareness of these abuses worldwide. Their bold campaigns to defend human rights and protect the environment in Cambodia have earned them international honors, yet their own government has responded by sentencing them to long terms in prison.
Planet before profit!
The Cambodian government is aggressively pursuing “development”, destroying protected areas, filling in lakes, and displacing communities – all in the name of growth and profit. For years, the movement Mother Nature Cambodia has warned that without nature’s resources, our children have no future.
Mother Nature Cambodia: young, outspoken, and fearless – for people and nature
The activists of Mother Nature Cambodia urge governments worldwide to listen to young people advocating for environmental and climate protection, and to commit to sustainable development.
